Conflicting Hearts by J.D. Burrows #Giveaway

Notice: Trying to access array offset on value of type bool in /home5/thewiney/public_html/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 523

ConflictingHeartsbannerconflicting hearts newRachel Hayward hoped to have a quiet thirtieth birthday alone. Instead, fate had different plans.

Caught in traffic and late for work, Rachel takes her eyes off the road to gawk at an accident and rear-ends the car in front of her. Sick over having ruined her day, she lowers her head and waits for the driver to begin a tirade over her stupidity. Instead, a kind man taps on her window showing genuine concern.

The brief colliding encounter suddenly starts a relationship between two strangers that takes off under odd circumstances. When intimacy begins, their relationship turns into a conflicting set of needs. Ian is tenderhearted and respectful, but Rachel desires aggressiveness from a man. The clash of desires threatens to tear them apart. As a result, she is faced with the decision to leave the man she loves or finally confront the painful secret of her childhood.

Author Notes:

Conflicting Hearts touches on a taboo subject, but one that is very real to many adult women in today’s society. Statistically speaking, the shocking reality is that one out of every four girls will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday. Though this is a fictional work, that actually documents a factual event in another person’s life, it has the power to open the eyes of readers to better understand those who have suffered abuse as a child. Written with a sprinkle of humor, believable characters, brutal reality, and sizzling romance, it is a book that some claim should be read by every woman. In the end, healing and healthy relationships are possible for those victims who seek help.

Synopsis:

What if your life wasn’t exactly as you thought it was? What if there were secrets you kept—from yourself?Becca Campbell has no idea her world is about to be turned upside down when she and Grayson return to New Hampshire.

Pieces start flying into place, answering the questions of the puzzle she calls her life. Things finally add up—it all makes sense. All that was lost is now found.

But will she be able to move forward, knowing the truth?

Author Bio:

I am a Domestic Engineer (born and raised in NJ) whose sole responsibility is to guide three young impressionable kids into becoming phenomenal adults. This challenging, yet rewarding work requires a lot of love (coffee), patience (wine) and determination (periodic exorcisms). I work all of this magic in the beautiful state of New Hampshire.

Before becoming a Domestic Goddess (not really), I spent over a decade working in the medical field where I wore more hats than the Queen.
I have had a love for the written word and the great escape it provides since I was a little girl. When I wasn’t reading about people and the places they lived, I was creating my own characters and adventures. Finally, I have been putting a pen to paper allowing my characters to come to life. When I don’t have a pen and paper in hand, you can often find me laughing at the conversations my characters are having in my head.

Meet the Authors of the Indie Book Fest 2014: Tawdra Kandle

Notice: Trying to access array offset on value of type bool in /home5/thewiney/public_html/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 523

meettheauthorsbanner

Hop around and Meet the Authors of Indie Book Fest 2014. Each stop features an author and a contest.

Welcome Tawdra Kandle! Author of the YA King series, contemporary romance The Posse, NA Best Served Cold, and her new book, Undeniable, a paranormal new adult novel.

Tell us a little bit about your book(s) and yourself. I am a writer, wife of one and mom of four (mother-in-law of one). I have one sweet puppy dog and five (yes, FIVE!) cats. I write romance, both contemporary and paranormal, in young adult, New Adult and adult genres.

When was your first book published? December, 2011

Why did you decide to become an Indie Author? I pursued traditional publishing for about a year, and while I did receive some encouragement, I eventually decided it was not something I wanted to continue to do. Thanks to the support of a dear friend, I took the leap into indie.

Are you currently working on anything? Always. I’m working on the second book in the Serendipity Duet, UNQUENCHABLE, and I’m working on JUST DESSERTS, the second book in the Perfect Dish Duo. I’ve also begun a little bit of my upcoming adult paramystery series, Recipe for Death.

Who and what inspired you to write? Everything I see, and always, the question. . .what if?

Each author has his or her own inspiring journey. How did you begin writing? I wrote my entire life. I don’t remember not writing. When I was in middle school, I had a short story published in a magazine. And then there was a little gap. . .okay, about thirty years. . .before I finished my first full-length novel. In between time, though, I did write several short stories, one of which one an award.

What is on your writing playlist for your book(s)? I am as eclectic a music lover as I am a reader. I listen to alt rock, oldies, eighties music, country, classical and even disco. . .it depends on the book and the characters.

Who is your favorite character in your books? I used to say it was Nell, and she is still a favorite. I’m beginning to think it may be Cathryn. She has appeared in The King Series, both of my shorts, The Serendipity Duet and will be in the Recipe for Death series. Girl gets around!

What is your favorite book of all time? The impossible question. Okay, the one I read most often is probably Celia Garth by Gwen Bristow, though I have several others that are a very close second.

Tell us in one sentence why we should read your books. My books will whisk you away from your day-to-day life into a world of strong women, sexy men and the adventures they share.

The Truffles recipe in the children’s book uses just three ingredients, so to keep the theme going of easy recipes, the author would like to share a three ingredient recipe for cookies!
The Easiest Butter Cookies Recipe Ever!
Ingredients:
  • 2 sticks of butter (1 cup)
  • ½ cup of powdered sugar (If you use regular sugar, the cookie will still be good, but not as smooth)
  • 2 cups of flour
Directions:Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy in a large bowl.

Add flour and continue to mix until mixture forms a soft dough (it will be crumbly at first, but keep mixing and it will form a dough).
Using a small cookie scoop dough into round balls and flatten with the back of the spoon or you can use a fork to press it down. You can also flatten the cookie dough with the bottom of a glass dipped in regular/granulated sugar.
Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until cookies are pale golden brown. Let cool on baking sheets. Makes about 12 cookies.

Enjoy!
