In an era of genetic engineering, Lieutenant Henry Gallant is the only Natural (non-genetically enhanced) officer left in the fleet. Many of his superiors, including rival Anton Neumann, have expressed concern he is not up to the challenge. However, his unique mental abilities have proven essential to the defense of the United Planets in its fight against the Titan invaders.
Serving on the first FTL prototype, the Intrepid, on its maiden voyage to Tau Ceti, Gallant finds a lost colony on the planet Elysium. Cyrus Wolfe and his son, manipulate planet politics against the democratic opposition led by James Hepburn and his granddaughter Alaina. Wolfe has allied himself with an ancient Artificial Intelligence which had lain dormant on the planet for millennia, but is now willing to protect the colonists against the Titans.
With Alaina’s help, Gallant discovers the ancient AI has a sinister ulterior motive and he matches his unique and exceptional mind against the complexity of machine intelligence to escape the ultimate trap and prevent the extermination of humanity.
In Lieutenant Henry Gallant, one man pits the naked human mind against the perspicacity of machine intelligence.

Book Reviews for Volume 1:
Past Reviews of the first volume: Midshipman Henry Galant @2013
“The author has created a wonderful piece of work with his first novel in the Henry Gallant Saga. Between Henry Gallant beginning his new life on the United Planets’ battle cruiser Repulse and trying to save the world the author has came up with it all. Henry Gallant is an admirable character with many wonderful features such as courage, intelligence, humility, kindness and special powers. … the odds stacked against him pretty high. But maybe through it all, Kelsey will see the remarkable things about him.” Ashley Patts, Teenage Rush teenagerush.blogspot.com
“This story moves along at a swift pace, with interesting character development and plot surprises. The characters are complete and engaging. This could develop into a good series.” Rae
“Its style and flavor reminded me of The Lost Fleet series by Jack Campbell.” – JJH
“Space Opera at its finest. Rousing read, introverted young man against impossible odds, a girl to win or lose, an enemy or is he? Way too much fun…can’t wait for the next one.” – vrzepka

When her friend Julia needed help forming a revenge plan against her ex-boyfriend, Ava was happy to lend a hand. She never expected that in the course of making Liam pay, she’d be the one to fall hard. . .for the one person who was absolutely off-limits. Crushing on the guy who humiliated her best friend is definitely against the girl code.
Besides, Ava has goals. Her life is all about graduating with honors and landing the perfect job. And Liam Bailey—sweet-talking, complicated son of a well-known local politician—isn’t part of those plans.
But Liam doesn’t give up easily. And he doesn’t intend to let their friends’ opinions, his parents’ disapproval or Ava’s past get in the way of what he wants–Ava’s heart.
So, in the previous book, Liam is no good. In fact, I pretty much hated him. So when this book came out, I thought how could Liam possibly be a love interest? And for Ava, the coolest roommate on the planet?
But he does. And you learn more about his past and family life and what makes him tick. Once again, we learn that you can’t assume and we don’t know what really goes on behind closed doors.
Ava is driven to succeed. She has no time for a boyfriend, much less one that she thinks is a complete jerk. But those are always the ones, aren’t they? He is out to prove himself worthy of her.
Chemistry. Yup. They have it. A LOT of it. I won’t spoil the good stuff for you here but let’s just say, they are physically attracted to each other. And it is fun to read.
I enjoyed the pace of this book, and the college setting. We all remember those times, the dorms, the parties…the cute boys….but I digress. This is a love story and of course, it isn’t easy. But the author takes you with them on their journey to finding each other and what it really important. And with a sexy couple leading the way, how could you not love it?
Some Italian wine goes nice with this one…maybe a Pinot…and some tiramisu. 😉

There’s a story for everyone in this book. You can read about the 6-foot, 400-pound woman arrested for fraud with $26,000 found stuffed in her very ample bra; stories of women who get naked and do disorderly things like steal cars, smash windshields and freak out in airports; the story of the dying woman who asked her husband to have a replica of her vagina carved on her tombstones which he could look at instead of chasing women after her death; stories of women teachers who have sexual affairs with high school boys; a woman who called New Haven police from a nightclub to give her a ride home; a story about a Texas women who asks her son to set a snake afire in her backyard and burns down her house; a story of a Japanese madam who specializes in providing 330-pound prostitutes to men who like women with “explosive boobs and butts”; a story about an Arizona lady who was the spokesperson for the State Department of Public Safety who was forced to resign when she learned that she was an undocumented alien living illegally in the U.S.; a “drunken dummy” or two; and a wide variety of just plain, stupid criminal stories about women in trouble that make this anthology worth reading. The easy answer is that steampunk stories are set in the 19th century Victorian era when steam-driven technology was primary, corsets were tight, and tea was a formal affair. But that’s like saying science fiction is about spaceships… when the genre is much broader, deeper, and more amazing than that. (And yes, steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction.)
With a thriving real-life steampunk culture that is very do-it-yourself in inventing characters, costumes, and gadgets, the real answer is that steampunk can be virtually anything you want it to be. It’s this tremendous devotion to creativity that actually drew me in to writing steampunk in the first place (along with the gorgeous costumes!). In this steampunk bundle, we have an east-Indian fantasy romance, a Asian-flavored pirate love story, a Shakespearean retelling, two stories set in a common world with a floating island, a young adult adventure about a lightning invention, and a story that uses Arcane Science in the modern world. These stories are perfect examples of the truly rich diversity of steampunk stories… while each also portrays a world where steam technology shifts the ground under their character’s feet.
We think of the Victorian era as being somewhat repressed, but it really was a time of tremendous change: class divisions, and the aristocracy it supported, were being challenged by the everyday men and women who were bringing about amazing technological advances. Science was on the rise! And the beautiful costuming and formal traditions of the past were coming into conflict with those first hints of the modern world. Steampunk stories in general resonate with readers not just because of their fun, escapist fantasy—a flight into the past when things were simpler, adventures were fought with sword and gun, and social strictures brought some order to the world—but because the upheaval wrought by technological change still resonates with our real lives today.
What is steampunk? It’s a story like any other story: a chance to escape the world for a few hours, to live in the wilderness of an author’s imagination, to adventure, to fall in love, to die for one’s friends. It’s classic storytelling in a visually rich, emotionally gripping era that still resonates with us today. Plus you get to rollick about in corsets and top hats, inventing gadgets and saving the world from the villains who turn that fantastic steam technology to their own dastardly purposes.
