Legend of the Spider-Prince: Rebel by Margo Ander – Book Tour

Legend of the Spider-Prince: REBEL

Wyl is a young rebel whose life of dangerous lies and hidden truths has cost him his childhood and his ability to trust. He is fanatically loyal to the rebel leader, a woman embroiled in a blood-feud with Trascolm’s ruling clan. When he’s not away spying, he’s her secret bodyguard—she needs protection from her army of renegades and outlaws as much as from bounty-hunters and assassins sent by her archenemy.
But when the rebellion meets with disaster, the rebel leader’s strategy changes. Wyl is thrust into a hostile royal court of underage teens—mere children, to his mind. He’s expected to embrace this more civilized way of life, but his brutally-honed instincts betray him, and he makes enemies instead of friends. Wyl—a boy raised by outlaws—is in over his head and must somehow master the subtleties of court intrigue well enough to keep the rebel leader and her rebellion alive, despite the treacherous machinations of her enemies, and do it without getting himself killed.

About the Legend of the Spider-Prince series
In a war-torn land where men have unbridled influence, but women hold the reins of power, a young rebel becomes entangled in a deadly web of magic, court intrigue, and revenge amid an escalating wave of events that will ultimately destroy magic, overturn governments, cause the near-collapse of civilization, even threaten the very existence of life on Eryth—and make him a legend.

About the Author

I loved fairy tales as a child, but could never get enough of them until I learned to read for myself. I spent my formative years with my nose in a book or playing dungeon master for my sisters long before there were actual games requiring one. Our Barbies fought Klingons, conquered the galaxy—and always had room on their spaceship for horses.

I am a horsewoman, an archer, a fencer, a former military officer, and a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism—all useful skills and experiences for a fantasy novelist. I am currently holding down a day job in Mississippi, USA, where I live with my husband and two daughters, and am presently down to one horse, one cat, and one dog—and ‘way too many books.

The Acid King by Maggie Abbott – Excerpt

Four long-estranged friends from London’s turbulent Sixties scene of sex, drugs and rock and roll are thrown together after seventeen years when one of them accidentally discovers the secret identity of their betrayer; a man they knew only as The Acid King, a charismatic figure who orchestrated a weekend of alluring drugs ending with a bust, jail time and death.

    • What the friends don’t know is that a New York FBI Agent, another old enemy of the Acid King, has been on a long frustrating manhunt of his own, driven by the same rage for revenge. Until, by coincidence, he discovers the mystery man’s hidden Los Angeles location and tracks him to his lair. Resulting in a dangerous confrontation that puts lives, both guilty and innocent, on the line.
    • The Acid King is the thinly veiled story of the famous Redlands drug bust of 1967; an event that put Mick Jagger and Keith Richards behind bars and nearly destroyed the world’s most famous rock band. All orchestrated by an unidentified man who set them up and then disappeared.
    • By a strange twist of fate the Author (former film agent for Mick Jagger) met the Acid King in Los Angeles and became involved with him for several years, never knowing who he really was, until her friend Marianne Faithfull (former lover of Jagger) surprisingly identified him.

Excerpt:

Pete’s face registered the strain of remembering an image from that night he’d never forget. It was one of several horrors that burned in his mind when he opened the hatch on that particular subterranean area called sixties memories he had cut out of his biography. This one was King Leo sitting in Jeremy’s high-backed antique armchair, primly nursing his silver attache case while the local constabulary slowly felt inside all the pockets of every jacket, trouser and coat they could find in the house, looking for evidence of illegal substances.

The dealer had just glibly persuaded the cops to keep their hands off his case of precious unprocessed film. It was outrageous. “I’m a filmmaker, that’s my life’s work in there, my movie, exposed film that would be ruined if you touch it,” he’d purred and pleaded.

Everyone in the room knew what was really in those foil-wrapped packages, but couldn’t say anything without incriminating themselves.

About Maggie:

The Acid King tells the fictionalized story of what she imagined could have happened afterwards.

Maggie Abbott started writing novels when she moved to Palm Springs after a long, successful show business career in Los Angeles, London, Rome, and New York.

A casual job as a secretary at the William Morris Agency in Rome introduced her to the exciting scene of Cleopatra, Fellini’s and The Pink Panther, with the city’s influx of big stars calling by the office every day, and triggered her lifelong love affair with movies.

Over the years, Maggie has enjoyed being in the most interesting places at the best of their times, while working as the movie agent for some exciting stars: Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Charlotte Rampling, Jacqueline Bisset, Martin Sheen, Raquel Welch, Christopher Plummer, Robert Redford, Mia Farrow, Peter Sellers, Richard Chamberlain, Peter O’Toole, Britt Ekland, Ken Russell, John Boorman, and many more.

Somewhere in between, Maggie was the production assistant on three Broadway plays, and a producer and studio executive at Columbia Pictures where she developed and got production credits on two movies.

Literary Addicts Weekly Meme – Favorite Book Cover

literaryaddictsmeme

Post of picture of your favorite book cover.

Really? Like I could choose just one?

Actually my favorite is for a book coming out next month.

eden

The Edge of Eden….of course, my favorite color is green. Isn’t it gorgeous? A good cover makes you want to see what is inside and a bad cover, well, doesn’t. You really shouldn’t judge something by what it looks like of course but let’s face facts, first impressions do matter.

I have seen so many fabulous covers lately…some others I love are:

and

this one is an oldie but a goodie

So what is your favorite? What one made you read the book?

The Posse by Tawdra Kandle -Book Tour & Review

The Posse

Being a widow at the age of forty-four was never in Jude Hawthorne’s plans. After her husband’s death, she’s left with her family’s beach restaurant and two nearly-grown children. The last thing she’s looking for is another chance at love.
However, if her husband’s best friends, the Posse, have anything to say about it, love is just what she’s going to get. The Posse is determined to take care of Jude, and when they decide the best way to do that is for one of them to sweep her off her feet, three begin to vie for her affections. But only one can reach her heart.

In a story of friendship, loss and second chances, Jude will learn her life is far from being over.
My review:

The Posse is the first adult novel written by the author. She has a YA series out already that I loved. Her first adult short story appears in Eternal Summer, an anthology.
The Posse is set in a fictional small town on the east coast of Florida. It centers on Jude, a widow whose children are about to go back to their lives a year after their father died. Now Jude must begin her new life.
So she does. But not without some problems along the way. And did I mention 3 hot guys? Three of her late husband’s friends decide to woo her. I won’t give any spoilers here of course but the ride on the way to her decision is full of laughter and tears.
I loved how Jude is a middle aged woman, and appreciated the references to 80’s music which is from my time. The idea of second chances, a strong woman, and moving on with life were all themes in this well-written story. I could see this quaint little town in my head, and all the fun characters. Like the 3 hot guys. Sensing a theme here?
Loved the romance in this book. These are men that know how to court a woman. Dinners, dancing, and just knowing how a woman likes to be treated. This book transported me, had me laughing, and crying tears of joy by the end. These characters are so well defined, I felt like I knew them and wanted to hang out with them.
The adult characters are all strong. These are not teenagers or young adults finding their way in life. I could really identify with that and made the story more plausible for me. They were real, flawed people who had lived and had experiences similar to me and people I know.
So if you like romance, a great story, and 3 hot guys, go get this book! Now!
I enjoyed a nice chilled Riesling with this…but am now craving some limoncello!
